After undergoing repairs earlier this year, the Graham Swamp trail is slated to be closed again after surveying cited several compromised areas along the trail – leading to the decision to initiate a major renovation to ensure visitor safety.

Built on wetlands, the Graham Swamp trail has been a long-time community staple for walkers, runners, and bicyclists alike. But wear and tear over the years and prolonged exposure to wet conditions year-round have taken their toll on much of the wooden boardwalk and bridges along the trail.

“Unfortunately, due to the prolonged exposure to the elements, we have decided that, for the safety of visitors to Graham Swamp, it is imperative that we fix the issues we are seeing along the entire trail system at Graham Swamp,” said City of Palm Coast Architect Eric Gebo. “Safety always takes precedent at any of our facilities, and we appreciate the patience of our visitors as we work to restore Graham Swamp to the level of structural integrity it needs to be to ensure safety for everyone.”

The next step will include a structural assessment along the entirety of the elevated boardwalk and associated bridges. Once the scope of the repairs is determined, the city will devise a solution on how to proceed.
