At the March 3rd City Council Business Meeting, the Palm Coast City Council approved moving forward with the design phase to preserve and adaptive reuse of the former Fire Station 22 (FS22) for future community use.
The approval allows the City to enter into a $226,600 agreement with Forefront Architecture & Engineering, LLC. to complete the design, engineering, and construction documents for the next phase of planning. This phase will develop detailed plans showing how the building can be renovated while protecting its historic character.
Over the past several months, City staff and the design team met with community stakeholders and City departments to gather input. Participating organizations included the Palm Coast Chamber of Commerce, Flagler County Tourist Development Council, Palm Coast Historical Society, and Flagler County Cultural Council.
Plans for the site include flexible meeting and rental space, a public museum or exhibit area, a catering kitchen for events, office and storage space, and outdoor areas for vendors and community gatherings. The design also includes rebuilding the historic bell tower and preserving the building’s original look.
The proposed site plan features 92 parking spaces that will also serve as overflow parking for the Palm Coast Community Center, an expanded south entrance, an outdoor patio, a historic fire truck display pad, and four wet retention ponds. Inside, concepts include a public lobby with reception and restrooms, exhibit space, flex and work rooms, private office space, elevator access, and a second-floor arts and crafts area with storage.
Funding for the $226,600 design phase comes from the FY26 Parks and Recreation Impact Fee Fund.
With Council approval in place, Forefront Architecture & Engineering, LLC. will begin the Construction Document Phase of work. Once completed, the plans will help guide future decisions about construction, funding, and long-term operations for Fire Station 22.
