Palm Coast Utility Department to Hold Water Study Treatment Group Centered on Career Placement, Advancement
Wednesday September, 21 2022
The City of Palm Coast is set to host a free Water Treatment Study Group starting October 18, in efforts to provide education and exposure to those interested in pursuing a career in the water and wastewater industries.
Comprised of volunteer instructors from regional utility departments here in Palm Coast and Flagler Beach, this course will allow direct insight into career opportunities, expectations and required education needed to begin or further a career in either of these industries, both of which are currently in high demand for workers.
“There is an abundancy of career opportunities in the water and wastewater industries right now and our goal is to present these opportunities to those interested in a way that they can immerse themselves in what these industries entail, and gage their interest in pursuing a career,” said Palm Coast Utility Chief Operator Fred Greiner, one of several volunteer instructors that will lead the group. “In turn, it also allows us a chance to work directly with potential candidates as well as other regional utilities for future job placement opportunities that become available during the course of this study group.”
In addition to the study group, participants must also complete a pre-requisite course listed in the DEP operator handbook, to pursue their FLDEP accreditation by passing a state examination and accumulate 2080hr of operations training to become a state certified operator. The Water Treatment study group helps explain the different processes and treatment practice to better inform those interested in the field of operations. While taking this course, the City of Palm Coast frequently hires trainees, who can receive on-the-job training at one of our facilities. Candidates who pursue this route will receive preferred consideration for jobs available upon completing their exam and receiving their FLDEP accreditation.
The study group will take place at Palm Coast Water Treatment Plant #3 – 400 Peavy grade, Palm Coast FL 32137 beginning October 18, 2022 from 6pm-8pm and run through January 17, 2023. Candidates are expected to attend all study group meetings. Seating is limited for this group. Those interested in attending can contact City of Palm Coast Utility Chief Operator Fred Greiner at FGreiner@palmcoastgov.com
