The City of Palm Coast Celebrates 25 Years with Festivities, Community Tributes, and Entertainment!
Monday October, 28 2024
The City of Palm Coast marked its 25th Anniversary with a memorable celebration, as more than 2,000 residents and visitors gathered at Central Park to honor the city’s growth, resilience, and vibrant community spirit.
Communications and Marketing Director Brittany Kershaw kicked off the event welcoming residents to the celebration and, Ms. Melanie DiMartino honored the nation with a heartfelt rendition of the national anthem, setting the tone for a day of community pride and reflection.
The celebration included educational booths by various City departments, giving residents an inside look at the daily work of their local government. Each department’s display highlighted the essential services they provide to the community, from public safety and utilities to parks and recreation, underscoring the city’s dedication to transparency and community involvement.
Mayor David Alfin graced the ceremony with a heartfelt speech, reflecting on Palm Coast’s transformation since its incorporation in 1999. “A city is not determined by its boundaries or by the asphalt on its roads and the lights on its streets,” he said. “Instead, it is determined by the hearts of the citizens who reside within.” Mayor Alfin emphasized Palm Coast’s journey as a unique, thriving community that has flourished into a home for over 100,000 residents. His words reminded everyone of the vision that began in the 1970s and continued with each generation’s contribution to the city's development.
The ceremony also featured a unique unveiling of a “living time capsule,” by the City Council which holds items representing the city's past and present. “Together, we’re not just preserving history—we’re keeping it alive for all to see and remember,” Alfin stated, explaining that the time capsule will be displayed at various city facilities, beginning with the Palm Coast Community Center, allowing future generations to reflect on Palm Coast’s legacy.
Ms. Cathy Heighter of Remembering Heroes presented quilts to local community heroes in recognition of their outstanding service. The quilts symbolized the dedication of individuals to public safety, education, and community service, honoring them as vital contributors to Palm Coast’s success. We also heard from Mrs. Kathy Reichard-Ellavsky, President of the Palm Coast Historical Society, who gave a brief insight into the role of the Palm Coast Historical Society and Museum.
The anniversary event offered a family-friendly atmosphere, with over 300 children enjoying the kids' zone, which raised over $3,000 in donations for the Palm Coast Historical Society & Museum.
Attendees enjoyed entertainment from Beach City Live, who performed hits spanning the decades, and a variety of food trucks, and two beer gardens.
With an atmosphere of celebration and community, Palm Coast’s 25th Anniversary was a resounding success, reflecting on past accomplishments and looking forward to a future full of promise and unity.
The City of Palm Coast extends a heartfelt thank you to all residents for their continued support, dedication, and pride in our community. The 25th Anniversary was a true celebration of our shared accomplishments and our bright future, made possible by the passion and involvement of Palm Coast’s incredible residents.
