The Palm Coast Fire Department invites the community to a Candlelight Memorial event on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, at 6:30 p.m. at Heroes Memorial Park, 2860 Palm Coast Pkwy NW in Palm Coast, to remember the 23rd anniversary of the September 11th terrorist attacks.
Deputy Fire Chief Bradd Clark will serve as Master of Ceremonies, with the Palm Coast Fire Department Honor Guard presenting the nation's colors. The Star-Spangled Banner will be performed by Flagler County Sheriff’s Office Commander Kenny Goncalves, and Rabbi Karen Tashman of Temple Beth Shalom will offer the invocation. Palm Coast Mayor David Alfin and Fire Chief Kyle Berryhill will deliver remarks.
The ceremony will conclude with the sounding of the Firefighter Memorial Bell by Chaplain Chris Cottle, followed by a candle lighting led by Chief Berryhill, Sheriff Rick Staly, and Mayor Alfin. The benediction will be given by Reverend Jose Panthaplamthottiyil of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church.
“This memorial service provides an opportunity for our community to come together and show our enduring respect for the heroes and victims of that fateful day,” said Palm Coast Fire Chief Kyle Berryhill. “We hope everyone will come and join us as we honor the memory of all those who lost their lives and stand together as a community to remember and pay our respects.”
This event is open to the public. Seating is limited, so early arrival is encouraged. The ceremony will begin promptly at 6:30 p.m. In the event of inclement weather, we will relocate the ceremony to nearby Fire Station 21, located at 9 Corporate Drive in Palm Coast.
