Want to take a behind-the-scenes look at the inner workings of the City government? The City of Palm Coast is excited to launch the Virtual Citizens Academy, which allows citizens to learn more about their City government from the comfort of their computers, tablets, or smartphones.
The Virtual Citizens Academy is available online here. This academy can be completed over a few days or a few months – there is no deadline. The academy will explain the role of each department and how they function. Each module presents videos, photos, graphics, and written text. The modules are organized to be engaging and accessible for the viewer to navigate. Each one should take approximately twenty minutes to complete.
“We are continually looking for innovative ideas to connect with our residents in a meaningful way, and this Virtual Citizens Academy is just one way to help our residents better understand our role as a municipal government,” said City Manager Denise Bevan. “If you cannot attend the in-person Citizens Academy, this online version is a great alternative that will still allow residents to better understand the inner workings of their city government. The webpage is up and running, so check it out today!”
Once participants complete the Virtual Citizens Academy, they’ll take a brief quiz to see how much they learned. Don’t worry – the quiz results will only enhance your understanding of what you’ve learned. After completing the quiz, participants will receive an official Virtual Citizens Academy certificate with their name on it.
The in-person Citizens Academy, a seven-week program held twice a year on Mondays, will continue for those who prefer that option. During the in-person academy, participants tour City facilities and hear from each department director, the City Manager, the Mayor, and City Council Members. Residents can sign up by clicking here. The next session, in March of 2023, is full. But spots are still available for our Fall session, beginning in September 2023.
